Albuquerque, N.M. – The legendary Tournament from the Sacramento Mountains lives on at Silva lanes in Albuquerque for 2025. The bowling center formerly known as Ruidoso Bowling Center decided to sever ties with the longstanding tournament after new ownership from out of state took over to turn the center into a mostly recreational center. This was hard news to hear for many bowlers in New Mexico and Texas, but NMCTS decided to step up to try to help the tournament live on. Moving the tournament to Albuquerque was hard for many bowlers who look forward to the weekend in Ruidoso to spend time with family, go to the Christmas parade, and stimulate the local economy. We are thankful to the bowlers who still made the trip and our friends at Silva lanes for helping make this happen!
The tournament itself saw 76 total entries, about 20 of which were re-entries. Previous NMCTS Champion JD Nance took the early lead on the only Friday Squad with 1352 and proved to be more than plenty to ensure his spot to bowl in the advancers round on Sunday. Saturday consisted of 4 Squads total in which the freshly oiled lanes for each squad continued to give some high scores and punish mistakes. All of the leaders from each squad were able to post a good enough score to secure their spots into the next round on Sunday. Overall Qualifying Leader Ben Heckroth (234.5 avg) made it look easy as he was able to cruise ahead of JD Nance for the Top Spot.
King of the Rock Qualifying Leaders:
Friday 9AM: JD Nance 1352 (225.3)
Saturday 10AM: Jacob Gill 1269 (211.5)
Saturday 12PM: Eddie Joe Torrez 1294 (215.6)
Saturday 1:30PM: Ben Heckroth 1407 (234.5)
Saturday 5PM: Trevor MacPhee 1280 (213.3)
Overall Leader: Ben Heckroth 1407 (234.5)
16 Bowlers made it into the Advancers Round and Double Elimination bracket, 3 Advancer Round games did not shake up the standings as pins did carry over into the next. The largest mover was Zach Harvey who shot 750 in the 3 game round to slide his way up a few spots in the standings.
Ben was able to keep the momentum going throughout the Bracket finishing undefeated and securing the top spot for the stepladder finals, putting him in a position to have to lose twice in the Championship Match. John Green lost to Ben in the final match of the bracket previously being the only other undefeated bowler and securing the 2 seed. The 3 seed went to Land Matthies who won his first match, followed by a loss, then ran all the way through the Losers bracket to earn his spot in the finals. The only feat more impressive was the climb Brian Skidmore made into the finals, losing his first match and going undefeated the rest of the way to snag the 4 seed.

See you next time!
